Thinking of putting your home on the market? Taking a few simple steps could make the listing, showing, and ultimate selling process much easier! Check out Cork Valley Properties’ tips on prepping your home to sell below!

Start from the Outside
Make a good first impression with your curb appeal! Clean up your landscaping by mowing the lawn, pulling any weeds, and trimming bushes as needed. Feel free to add any flowers, but that’s certainly not necessary! Clean and spruce any trouble areas such as dirty siding or gutters. A clean look will allow potential buyers to see the possibilities!
De-clutter Your Decor
When living in your home, it may be filled with knickknacks and family photos, which is completely fine! However, while preparing your home for listing photos and showings, you want to ensure that buyers can picture their family in the home rather than yours. Clean up your decor by removing personal photos or mementos, this will also help you get a leg up on packing. Make sure to patch and paint any nail holes created from taking down photos, too!
Neutralize
In line with decluttering a home, you may want to paint over rooms that are not in neutral tones so that they appeal to more buyers. While paint ‘shouldn’t’ be a deal breaker while house hunting, it could cause buyers to have a poor first impression and not be able to see past the color scheme.
Clean as a Whistle
Clean your home as though company is coming to visit! Keeping a clean home for photos and showings can show buyers that the home has been well taken care of. If you can, hire a professional cleaning service to spruce things up.
Make Pre-emptive Repairs
As a part of the selling process, buyers are able to have an inspection completed (we always recommend them!). If you know that your home has an older roof or rickety railings outdoors, go ahead and complete those repairs prior to listing your home. That way, it’s a win-win! You can advertise the new roof AND the buyers aren’t scared off during an inspection that they would have to purchase a new roof along with an entire house.
We hope that these tips can help you be intentional and efficient in listing your home! If you have any questions or need any other information, contact us! We’re happy to help!
