Living in a rental space with an unfinished basement? Owning your home but not wanting to incur the cost of finishing your basement? Here are some tips on how to make your unfinished basement a livable space in your home!
Organize the “Floorplan”
Make sure you section off different areas of the basement to give each corner a purpose. Want to have a fooseball table but also maintain storage? Assemble a partition to hide your boxes of seasonal decor! You can also place partitions up to hide things like your hot water heater and furnance.
Soften up the Space
To give the concrete of a basement a softened feel, add foam mats on top of the flooring! You can also ensure to have a lot of soft, cushiony seating throughout if you are creating a living space. An area rug can also have this effect!
Bring in the Color
Brighten up the basement with your favorite colors! If you’re renting the space, you can use command strips or putty to hang pictures, posters, or tapestries. If you own your space, paint the walls a bright color! For minimum effort, you can keep it to just an accent wall. Incorporate fake plants to bring in some greenery!
We hope these tips will help you create a space that is more ‘homey’ out of your unfinished basement!
